Stub Axles

In Australia the term 'stub axle' is used to denote the short axle that provides the locating stud on the inner end for the lower shock absorber mounting, with the wheel bearings and the hub that contains the wheel studs on the outer end.

In the uk we commonly refer to a short axle coming off a hub or arm upon which a wheel spins as a stub axle not used the owrd to describe the thing a shocker fits onto, i would have called it the shockabsorber mounting shaft or mounting pin? > end. This terminology is pretty universal, or at least I thought so? On > rear wheel drive cars the front axles will be stub axles mounted in the > upright. Also on trailers, for example.
