The Ackerman angle is the term used to describe steering geometry that causes the inside front wheel to turn "tighter" than the outside front wheel.
| Model | Outer wheel angle | Inner wheel angle |
| Metro Turbo, GTa, Advantage | 29deg 48' | 31deg 50' |
| All other Metros | 20deg | 20deg 40' |
| ERA Mini Turbo | No information | No information |
| All other Minis | 20deg | 21.5deg +/- 1.5deg |
Any change to the original dimensions will change this angle. All the suspension components & their location, are identical on ALL Metro's. The only differences that are causing this change to the Ackerman angle are:
The change in wheel type, giving the second Metro group more offset and changing the front track from 1.302m to 1.312m
The difference in ride height, the second Metro group is set at 1.378m with the first at 1.373m
One other point of interest is the front tracking. All
mini models should be set at 1.6mm toe-out EXCEPT the ERA Turbo. The setting
for this is 4.7mm to 6.3mm toe-out!
Maybe this has been increased to correct excessive Ackerman or reduce torque
steer. Caster for the Turbo is the same as other Mini models (3deg +/- 1 deg
positive), but the Camber is obviously different (2deg +/- 1 deg positive std,
the Turbo is 1.5deg negative).
